Steve Hunt: Common Sense Conservative Leadership
The resounding victory of Governor-elect Bob McDonnell and the Republican ticket brings real hope to all Virginians. It's a chance to deliver real change - by reversing the trend toward higher spending and higher taxes, rolling back big government and empowering job growth.
To implement the McDonnell pro-jobs and pro-enterprise agenda, the new administration will need the General Assembly's support. While the GOP gained seats in the House of Delegates, the State Senate remains 21-19 Democrat. The next battleground will be the special election to fill Attorney General-elect Ken Cuccinelli's unexpired term in the 37th State Senate District.
Steve Hunt is the strongest contender to keep the 37th District in the Republican column.
A proven vote-getter, he carried the district in all three of his Fairfax School Board campaigns in 1999, 2003 and 2007. In 2003, he was the only Republican to win county-wide, and in his narrow 2007 loss nonetheless carried more precincts in the 37th than the winning Senate candidate.
Like Attorney General-elect Cuccinelli, Steve's known for his ability to reach out to independent voters without compromising Conservative principles. During his four years of service on the Fairfax County School Board, Steve built a strong track record in support of accountable, community-responsive government. A defender of Virginia's working families and small businesses, he opposes big government and higher taxes, favoring grassroots, community-based solutions.
